\nPhD dissertation project Global Modelling of Organic Pollutants in the Environment Tentative title of the thesis: Investigation of atmospheric transport and chemistry of organic pollutants using an Earth System Model Organic pollutants\u2018 fate and distribution in the environment is strongly influenced by the substance properties. The accumulation of pollutants in terrestrial and marine food chains is one of the implications hereof (multicompartmental substances). We aim to improve the predictability of global fate and distribution of long-lived organic pollutants in the environment by means of numeric modelling. The project focuses on pesticides and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, their chemical processes and input into ecosystems. The Earth System model is adapted to substance specific aerosol and multicompartment processes. The project work has multidisciplinary aspects (scientific programming, chemistry and geo-sciences) and stands in the context of environmental management and policy making. The project will be integrated into the Max Planck Graduate School. The doctoral thesis may be written in English or German. Requirements: Applicants should have obtained a degree (M.Sc<\/a>. or equivalent) in science, mathematics or engineering with a score clearly above average at a school located in the E.U., or at an equivalent institution and should be fluent in English. Experience in a higher programming language (preferably Fortran90\/95) and in UNIX\/Linux is required. Experience in numerical modelling is advantageous.
